Making an appointment
When booking an appointment, we encourage you to book you with your regular GP for continuity of care. In some circumstances your GP may not be available when you require; however, in this case we can book you with the next available doctor. ‘On the day’ appointments are reserved and may be available for urgent medical matters. Please call the surgery if you require an urgent appointment.
Standard consultations are 15 minutes long. If you require a longer appointment, please advise the reception staff at time of booking. Our practice tries hard to maintain a punctual appointment system. Due to unforeseen circumstances appointments may become delayed.
When you need to cancel
Cancellations with our GPs require at least 24 hours’ notice. We understand this is not always possible and encourage you to please advise reception at your earliest convenience if you are unable to attend your appointment.
Pathology Results - what you should know
All test results are reviewed by your doctor. If your results are clinically important you will be contacted by the practice staff to make an appointment to discuss these results with your doctor. Urgent appointments are made for the same day.
Clinical interpretation of your tests and specific results can only be discussed between you and your doctor during an appointment.
Arranging your prescriptions and referrals
Prescriptions and referrals cannot be routinely provided without an appointment with a doctor. In the interest of patient safety, requests for repeat prescriptions will be denied if you have not been reviewed within the past three (3) months. Please speak to reception to discuss options for short notice prescription renewals. Non-Medicare claimable fees may apply.
Failure to have a current referral for specialist appointments will result in your specialist Medicare rebate being forfeited. It is a patient’s responsibility to ensure there is a valid referral at the time of any specialist appointments. Referrals cannot be backdated. It is our policy that you must book an appointment with your doctor to receive a new or on-going referral to ensure continuity of care. Requests for your doctor to write a referral to a specialist without seeing you will be denied.
When you need a medical certificate
Medical, sick, and carer certificates can be issued by your GP during your appointment. As per our policy, you will require a standard consultation for a medical certificate to be provided so your doctor can appropriately assess you. There are no exceptions.
Communicating with your GP
To utilise the consultation time allocated to patients, our doctors are unable to accept or return patient phone calls.
The reception team will take a message and your doctor will address it as soon as possible. If your call is urgent, you will be transferred to our practice nurse and triaged accordingly. At your doctor’s discretion, it may be necessary to initiate a telephone, or ‘Telehealth’, consultation with you, and a fee may occur - please refer to Our fees
Email is not encouraged due to your privacy and security.
Please do not use email to make or cancel appointments, or for any urgent enquiries, as we do not have continuously monitored email addresses.
If it becomes necessary to use electronic means (such as email) to transmit your personal health information, you will be asked to give consent prior to the documentation being sent. We will never send sensitive information through use of email.
